On October fifth, in the Maryland department of health and mental hygiene, there was a reported three guests that were hospitalized and diagnosed with legionnaires disease, which is an infection, caused by bacteria transmitted by inhalation of warm stagnant water that has been aerosolized. The mode of transmission means that the bacteria is more prominent in developed or industrial areas, hotels, spas, and cruise ships, the risk is generally low though, and cannot be transmitted person to person. The symptoms include respiratory problems cough and high fever, there is a treatment for the infection but there is no preventative measure to keep from getting it. This infection was first seen in 1976, and was an epidemic, it was since then not a big problem of the U.S, but as it started with only a few people back then, and turned into a epidemic, it could do the same in today's society.
Now that the U.S is completely covered in hotels, and all kinds of tourist attractions, this just seems like the breeding grounds for this infection to spread. People will get the infection, and by the time they return home they wont be sick, and more people will be going to the same spot, and continue to get infected. With the increase in immigration to the united states and traveling back and forth, even though this infection isn't transmitted person to person, it is still possible for people from around the world to get infected. Communication between countries, and cooperation between these countries will help make sure that a world wide epidemic won't happen. There are also many modernizing countries that are beginning to get more hotels and places that are the breeding grounds for this infection, so not only do we have to worry about people getting it from the US but also getting it from another country, while visiting, or working over seas.
