This article was about the Fight Back phone app that is getting launched in India. This app came as a result of the acts of women happening India especially in the capital which is New Delhi. The article says that in New Delhi one rape happens every 18 hours. This App can send a message to family, friends, police and social networks. This is a good idea because they want to get the message across to everyone they know. The article also talked about the issues women face in the patriarchal society of India including forced marriage, dowry murders and other important issues that are happening to women. An important feature of the app that was also mentioned was the fact that the alert can be mapped out and shown what kind of gender crimes are and have occurred. This app is part of Whypoll’s “Safe in the City” Campaign to combat this growing problem against women.
Violence against women is very much a social problem because it happens to women all around the world. It is not just located in one area; it is an issue that many women have experienced. It is good to see that something is finally being done about this problem.This app is using technology to further this issue so it gets more attention worldwide. I like the idea of technology being used for good. Many women everywhere cannot go against their attacker for fear of what will happen to them but this app is a step in the right direction with allowing women the ability to report the attack while still being able to remain anonymous about where it happened. To fix the problem, countries everywhere need to develop campaigns and programs where women can report their attacker as well as feel protected. This app allows women to feel empowered over their situation and to show that something is being done about this issue.
