The article I read was about a study on temperatures and whether or not global warming is really a big issue or not. The Berkeley Earth Project is a collection of temperatures going back to the 1800s and taken from 15 sources. These papers are to be released without peer review for the public to see. The study claims that on average, the temperature around the globe has risen about 1C since the mid 1950s. The idea of the study is to be neutral about whether or not there is any truth to global warming concerns, but to provide real statistics that aren’t skewed to make it look as if there is more of a problem than actually is. The study is getting a lot of criticism from those who think global warming is a major concern.
I thought this was an interesting article because it addresses a big issue that many people are concerned about, and one that I am really unsure what the extent of the problem is. I have heard a few opposing viewpoints over the years. I would be interested in seeing these papers when released. This could be a partial solution to a global problem (destruction of the environment) by showing us where we really are in terms of temperature change. I still think regardless of what this study shows it is important to use renewable sources of energy and cut back on emissions and the size of the carbon footprint whever possible. I think it is important even if it only helps a little.
