When searching for women’s education in the current news, tons of articles popped up. Different countries had many updated articles about where education stood for their women. A good article that summed it up was one discussing Morocco. Right away they discuss the struggles of women everywhere that are trying to get an education. It is not an easy task anywhere to achieve education and in return that affects your status in society, ranking, and your voice being heard. Currently two thirds of the countries women are illiterate. The enrollment rates of males and females into education still differ greatly, even though more and more women are pursuing an education. Their scores for female testing continue to be lower than any other part of MENA (Middle Eastern and North African) countries. Just as we discussed in class as reasons why women’s education rights get held back are due to religious views, patriarchy, and insufficient funds and Morocco has these same issues. They believe women should completely devote their lives to their husband and family.
Due to all the desires of change, the constitution promotes democracy, modernization, and enhanced civil rights. Women are taking action and not letting these new rights fall by the way side. They have been active and trying to fight for their rights more and more. The fact that we have come this far for even this country to example mean the world is getting the hang of it. Hopefully its societal influences will be spread and the whole world will keeping fighting to the equal right to education no matter what gender.
