This article was written as an argument response article to Lynsey Hanley's article on the global population reaching a new landmark. In Hanley's article, she is basically saying that women are not conceiving enough babies and she quotes "we've room on earth" and "it's sustainable if the rich world consumes less." She believes that women should just have an initial family plan. This article was written in response to this because many believe that she fails to realize that many women don't want to have children. Hanley believes that population growth will increase the resources used and produced. Although critics feels that she doesn't look at the bigger picture and that is it is against both the humans rights act and women's right in general to force women to have family plans. Many women are on contraceptions to prevent/reduce their chances of getting pregnant. The human toll of denying women the fundamental right to plan their families is extraordinarily high and also a significant source of population growth. And so the debate continues should women be forces to plan their families?
I feel that it should be the women's choice to decide whether or not to have children. Believe it or not, not all women are fit to be mothers. Although I personally don't agree with abortion, it is ultimately the women's choice. You never know the circumstances surrounding an unexpected/unplanned pregnancies. For instance, a women could have been sexually assaulted and doesn't want to bear the thought of raising a child that was concieved in this way. I believe that women essentially should have their own choice of whether or not to have children or not. Some women choose not to get pregnant right away and by using contraceptions might help delay the chance of pregnancy until they feel the time is right for them.
