Today’s world is filled with crime and violence. With men having so much control and strength over women, it leaves them feeling helpless. There is an article that discusses just this and how many money around the world have possessions of weapons in their homes for safety. Many women reported back to a survey that they feel much safer having a weapon in their home. The countries where crime is high, these numbers proved to be true because more and more women had weapons. These weapons consisted of all types of things like guns, knives, torches, a golfing iron and so on. Women feel the need to go to the extreme for their safety. A criminologist in the article brought up a good point that women are forced to believe they are helpless. Women are always the victims in movies and media. Females do not tend to think about the more common crimes, but instead always focus on the possibility of being attacked at night by a man.
The concerns of the author of this article are the carelessness and lack of knowledge when it comes to actually using these weapons. Protection is understandable but there are other more efficient ways. Safer safety plans are things like installing alarms, having a panic alarm, or going to the police for help instead of trying to do it yourself. Crime is a global problem, and there is no best way for women’s safety. If women feel the need to have a weapon in the house, she needs to be trained correctly on how to use it. Laws to emplace these safety measures are key.

I definitely agree with you, if women are going to have some of these weapons in their home they should be taught how to use them. In our textbook I learned that many people who have guns are more likely to use it against a loved one, than on an intruder. People are more likely to kill or injure someone by accident. Since there are many women who are raising children on their own I'm not sure it would be a good idea to have dangerous weapons in your home. Like you stated, it may be best to just install an alarm system or having a panic alarm.
