Blog #12 Women Need More Mental Health Support

Women take on a lot of responsibilities and often multi-task to get things done. Having so much pressure placed upon them usually caused them to stress out. This affects their quality of life and productivity, and stops them playing a full part in family life and their communities. Women need more mental health support than they are receiving. research by Platform 51 has shown that a third of women have taken antidepressants at some point in their lives, while one in four women currently taking antidepressants have been on them for 10 years or more. It seems like so much is expected out of a woman, as if she is supposed to be a superwoman and tackle everything on her own. Sometimes I even feel that way myself, that is not healthy; everyone needs a little help every now and again. 44% of women take time off work as a result of mental health problems and one in four stay off for at least a week. Work can be very stressful and although we have to work to make end meet just a little support from someone close to us can make our mental status stronger.

Women are such strong individuals and can tackle many things at once, but sometimes the work load needs to be passed to someone else. Stress and being depressed from work and other obligations is neither healthy nor good.  Also antidepressants aren’t the best option because they can cause suicidal thoughts or tendencies. So when stressed or depressed just take a minute and breathe and remember that it is ok to ask for help but go about it in the right way.

I am an advocate for women and our rights. I really appreciate someone focuses on women. Yes it is true, everyone feels as if we should do everything and yet still remain sane through it all. We get tired like every other individual. Therefore, things like relaxation bars for women or just a simple mani and pedi can help out a lot with the stress that we carry.

The sad reality is that most people don't really understand both the emotional and mental strain that women go through on a day to day basis. That being said, I totally agree with this article.
