Blog 13 Ethnic Division in Jos, Nigeria Again

Recetly in the city of Jos, Nigeria 15 people were killed due to ethnic division. The violence took place after members of the murder of three Berom teens by the Fulani. A police officer and four children were killed. Over 20 buildings were burnt during the violence. As a result, the military was called in to take control. The city was placed on an 24 hour curfew. The groups have clashed because Fulanis are muslims and Beroms are christians living in the same area.

This is a global social problem because, this is a reacurring issue in Jos. This isn't the first time a large number of people and children have been killed in the city. The government no longer has control over the people within the city. Past reports suggested that the government had an answer for the violence and division but now the police and young children are being killed. The government needs to take complete control back over the city before more people are killed. They should find a way to handle the tension between the Fulanis and the Beroms to take control.

This is a very disturbing article. If you sit back and think about this happening in the U.S. it makes you feel anger and resentment. It gives me these feelings because I think about how I would feel if something of that nature happened to one of my family members or someone I cared about. Honestly I have no idea what I would do because it scares me to think that this is actually happening in the world. The fact that this is happening in other parts of the world makes me wonder how people can be so cold and cruel.

it is a shame that people from the same place cant seem to get along because of differing ethnicities. i mean they are from the same general area so why so much hostility. if this continues it will only get worse. we have to get these people to learn about one another and stop being so stereotypical.

This is a common theme in many countries, and happens all the time. Its a shame that it happens, and it needs to stop however.

This is very common in many parts of the world. This is why there are refugees, these people escape their countries to come to the US and practice their religion here safely and without prosecution in their own country. It is very sad and disturbing

This article is very heart breaking. It is hard to believe how people who live in the same city continue to kill one another just because of their ethnicity. When even the government cannot control the city there is a huge problem. The government needs to step and do something to stop the killing. Innocent people are dying it is cruel and inhumane.

Wow! This article took me by surprise. I was very troubled after reading it. It's sad to say that even after all progress we've mad since slave and racism times, that we are still SO behind. It's really ashame that racism and discrimination is still alive and well! Will this ever stop?

I legitemently do not understand why peole find it nessacary to fight others just because they may look different or have diffeent believes. Why cant we just get along. To many people around the world are being killed because others dont like the thngs they believe in. This is not a legitiment reason to kill someone. Who has the right to take the life of another? This really angers me.

The same division is happening here in the United States but with less violence. We are supposedly a 'christian' nation and resent the muslims who reside in our very nation. Ever since the September 11attacks, all Muslims are looked at as horrible people, even those who were born here.
