The article I read was about our use of resources going down. Chris Goodall, a researcher, says that our use of resources has peaked. The article I read was a follow up to his findings. First of all there probably needs to be more research done before we can guarantee what the cause of this reduction in consumption is. The writer originally thought that the reason would have been because of the reduction of spending in the economy, and in turn, it caused less to be used, but Goodall’s research shows that it could be that technology has developed and made products more eco friendly causing a reduction. This would be much better because it would allow for more stimulation of the economy.
I think it is good that our use of resources is going down. It will be better for the environment especially with all the concern about greenhouse gases and pollution. Also there should be much less waste all together, and it would also possibly show that people all trying to live more frugally. I think with more research this could really be good news if the economy is better off and the environment is better off. Hopefully technology will continue to develop to make more eco friendly products. However, the writer wondered if the driver may not even be the economy so there is still much to be found before the research can be perfected. Either way, the peak of resources is good news and could help counter many global problems such as the destruction of the environment and the world economy.
