Blog Post #11: Mixed Signals Spark Fear, Hope for Saudi Women

Saudi women are gaining rights in their country. Women are upset that every time they gain improvements in their lives it gets pushed back in another way. They want women to have more rights given to them. Fawzia al-Baker a college professor defied the driving ban and she has said that it is easier for women to gain their rights by the increasing explanation of technology and awareness of the issues going on in Saudi-Arabia. One man states how the driving ban has affected him and the effects it has on him. Overall, the women in this article want improvement in all areas of their lives. One law that they want to change is the one regarding where men are the decision maker for women.

This relates to a social problem because a lot of women in many countries do not have the rights they deserve and many times are denied the basic human rights they deserve. It affects people everywhere because in many countries around the world, it seems as if women are taking a stand against their government if they are not being treated the way they should be. Women are going through their own “revolution” and demanding notice by those who have ignored them for many years. For things to change for these women everywhere there has to be a compromise or agreement between all parties involved while still taking into account their own culture. Combining culture and rights for all will be tough but can be done if done with careful consideration.
