More Women into Business

“More women into business,” presents the growing desire of women owning their own businesses. The number of women in Fiji that are self employed has increased since the 2008-2009 Income Expenditure Survey. PIPSO’s assistance designed for women who are learning to become self employed has had great benefits. PIPSO (Pacific Islands Private Sector Organsation) is an organization that is dedicated to achieve development and growth within forum island countries. PIPSO has joined with the United Nations Development programme Pacific Center to cater to hosting workshops that will help women build profitable businesses. The workshop discusses barriers and issues that women may deal with when they are trying to start their own business. These workshops allow women who are interested in becoming a business owner insight on how current female entrepreneurs have reached their entrepreneurial status. Also, it allows them to observe other current female entrepreneurs to identify opportunities that could strengthen them.
As a future female entrepreneur I feel that it is important for female self employment to be pushed and recognized. Many members in society feel that a woman can’t be a profitable business owner. Most people view entrepreneurship as a male’s role. However, women are just as capable of owning a successful business as men. It is important that the women in Fiji are being offered these workshops that present them with ideas and give them the support that any individual who is opening a business needs. The innovative ideas that these women are receiving from these programs give them a bundle of intellect and knowledge to create a profitable business that could expand to great lengths.

The more support and programs in Fiji for women have had an effect of the women that are self-employed. It is good to read that there are workshops mainly for coaching women in entrepreneurship. This is an idea that can be used globally which will raise the number of women entrepreneurship.
