Womens Reproduction Madagascar

We have discussed in class this week the fear of population growth and what we will do when there are too many people are earth.  Resources and space are going to become limited and scarce.  Hopefully with technology we will make do and prepare as population grows rapidly.  Some countries have tried to take precautionary measures like China’s “one-child policy”.  With more and more births, and higher life expectancy then these kinds of things are important to take into consideration.  Not condoning the extreme of killing babies, but to not try and have as many babies as possible.  These teachings need to be taught in Antalaha, Madagascar.  Women’s health and education are not spread to the females of this town.  Men believe women should have their babies and if they take any forms of birth control then it is a sin against their culture.  Women often have babies as soon as 24 months after they had just had the last baby.  It is what as seen as the norm.  The women here want different and to actually live their lives without the constant force of reproduction.  Most fathers often leave their families after forcing woman to have babies.  One organization began in the UN, Global Program to Enhance Reproductive Health Commodity Security.  With the help of the organization, over 5 years the percentage of birth control use rose from 11% to 29%.  If this rate continued it would do great things to Madagascar.  This would then in return affect the entire would population.  Women sought helped from the organization right away.  They reported crimes of rape and were ready to get help.  Birth control and reproduction education is a great help towards gaining control over the population.
