Blog # 1:Eradication of Guinea worm disease

Guinea worm disease is contracted from drinking stagnant water that is infested with the "fleas" of the worm. Once the fleas have been ingested they bore into the abdomen of the host and grow into worms. In order to complete their life cycles they must exit your body. To do this they continue to bore through the tissue until they surface from the skin usually around the legs and feet do to gravity. Guinea worm disease has caused suffering in many countries but thanks to advancements the guinea worm disease is on its way to be eradicated. It is now only seen in three countries now. A company called Vestergaard Frandsen an American company created a cloth that filters out the fleas. They created a device called a pipe filter where the cloth is around a straw type device and that can be used to drink water out  of watering holes.

I think that this is a good article because it shows that communication between counties is key to the success and advancement to the world. The Guinea worm disease was something that plagued millions of people since ancient times. A handful of people at a corporation in America realized that there was a serious problem and they figured out a way to solve an issue that entire countries did not know how to address. If countries do not communicate they cannot get a third party perspective and problems. Which in turn is only going to cause more issues. Had the American corporation not looked at other countries they wouldn't have helped and the Guinea disease would still be affecting millions of people.
