A member of the Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith stated that it is unacceptable for bishops not to enforce the proper rules, regulations, and consequences of church law on priests that commit abusive acts against young children. People of the church are trying to push the pedophile priests to be sanctioned for their actions. Bishops and priests from 110 dioceses and 30 religious orders must attend a symposium workshop to go over proper guidelines on how to treat children. These workshops are designed to help bishops and priests around the world and possibly put an end to the undocumented abuse. The government puts the blame on the bishops for not reporting the priests’ sexual abuse against children. Since the church has been trying to hide the issue of the pedophile priests’ the government has picked up the slack. These abuse cases are seen everywhere from The United States all the way to Rome. The bishops were given the advice to listen to the children’s accusations before the priests because of course it is more likely for the priests to lie about their actions. The main goal is to stop abuse. Hopefully with the symposium workshop the church community can do just that.
It is no secret to anyone that this type of abuse occurs in Catholic Church societies. I always felt this was an issue that has consequences that have not been enforced to the highest degree. I agree with the article in regards to sending the bishops and the priests to the workshops. A lot of the times bishops do not get included in the priests scandals but I always felt they should face some repercussions as well because the bishops are the ones that are suppose to oversee the priests. I have several family members who are Catholic and attended a church where a priest abused a child. The bishop tried to down play the situation but the child’s parents would not let it go. These child sex abuse crimes happen all of the time in churches around the world and I believe it is great that it is being forced upon both the priests and bishops to attend workshops. Although I believe more should be done, this is a great step in the right direction. If you are going to church for guidance for a priest, someone you confide in, then no one in my opinion should have to go through this.
