Blog #6: Engineers Use Computer Models to Help Resource-Poor Nations

At the Georgia Institute of Technology, a couple of engineer had an idea to improve health care resource.  The idea was to use computer models to help poor nations to develop their supply claim choices like the delivering breast milk and non-pharmaceutical involvements for malaria.  Julie Swann an associate Professor in the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech says “We use mathematical models implemented in the tools like Microsoft Excel to improve limited resource across a network.”  The first project for the computer model, Swann and a couple of graduate student made some model in South Africa so they can enlarge breast milk donation.  To make this work, health mothers give milk to women who cannot provide health milk because of disease status or a physical inability.  With this idea to develop health care resource, the engineer also help out Caribbean nations with this matter.
This strategy is helpful to nations that have poor health care.  Julie Swann and a group of graduate students took their time to improve to technology on what they have.  Georgia Institute of Technology found way to help citizens in different countries with their health.  I glad to read about people use modern technology with good use to help out with social problems in the world.  I hope people can use the equipment today to solve world problems like the deceasing of breast milk.  That was a great idea to help the citizens in different countries who need more assist to survive.
