Improper condom use is more common than what most people
think. Whether it is removing it during the duration of intercourse or putting
the condom on upside down, it has caused the rise of HIV/AIDS an even bigger
global issue. More than 20 researchers around the world led by the Kinsey
Institute Condom Use Research Team (CURT) focused on safe-sex behaviors from
Americans, counterfeit condoms in China and the use of the female condom in
South Africa. Sexual health professionals have realized that there are cultural
and individual ways that condoms are used, mainly the reason why they are
improperly used. But, they are finding ways to increase the
acceptance so the idea of condom use.
What has to be understood is that condoms are much more inexpensive
compared to the medications needed to help with HIV/AIDS, not to mention how
difficult it would be to have access to such medications to being with. There
needs to be more people in the world willing to give the proper education to
ensure safe sex. It can also go beyond just giving the education; clinics
should be available to give the contraceptives. If the male is continually
improperly using the condom, female condoms could be used as well, not to
mention oral birth control—this will not only protect the woman from any
diseases, but could protect her from any unplanned pregnancies as well. I believe
that the talk of sex is still uncomfortable or considered taboo, but once sex
education is distributed by health care providers, this talking openly about it
will make the use of condoms increase and protect all of those who engage in
sex.
