Blog #6 Technology makes learning complete

Technology is more prevalent in most classrooms now.  Schools are becoming more tech savvy, offering different technological tools to their students to aid in their learning. Many students are now basing where they study off of the technology benefits the school has to offer. A college student, Shama Nisha Singh, says, “Technology plays a big role in increasing our information base on various subjects and that shows in the marks one scores.” The change is evident that everyone is moving from rote learning to technology based education.  Laptops, interactive CDs, and e-learning are slowly becoming a part to everyday classroom life. The article states that the majority of people in India are made up of something called the GenNext and it is important to provide those individuals with the right education. India has been implementing new things into their education system with reference to technology and believe that an introduction in IT will aid students, faculty, and bring overall improvement to the efficiency of the system. The Internet has made everything available at the click of a finger and students are definitely taking advantage of this technology.
Technology is a great thing, something that is sure to continue to be prevalent in the years to come. However, from the education perspective, I don’t think that education should start to move solely on technology and that is the overall feel that I am getting from this article. I don’t think that technology makes learning complete as the title of the article says, but I do think that it is a useful aid in learning. Technology should be another alternative, another style of teaching used in the classroom to help those hands on learners, creative learners, visual learners, etc. I personally do not care for all of the technology use in the classroom for a couple of reasons. One reason is that it sometimes a distraction, when students bring laptops to class most of the time students are not listening because they are on Facebook, Twitter, emailing, and or finding other things to do but listen to the teacher. Another reason, in my personal experience is that now teachers are using more technology to teach, as far as using prezis and other aids, and it is annoying when things don’t work due to internet connection or doesn’t load. This causes a delay in class and some teachers are all over the place with their lectures because they didn’t have a back up, something that they always tell us students to do. My last reason is that we still have people who are living in poverty that go to school and cannot afford the Internet, laptop, or even the transportation to a library to complete a sometimes required electronic assignment. Technology is a great asset and I love it at times but like the article said technology should not be used to try to substitute the knowledge a teacher can impart.
