For decades dirty water and decaying
ecosystems were ignored along the shores. That is until the BP oil spill
accident. After more than a year has passed by the US Department of Agriculture
has presented a three year 50 million dollar initiative that advocates to
improve the water qualities along our coasts. With this newly established
initiative researchers believe that there will be a greater amount of emphasis
placed on the preservation of our ecosystems. The goal of this new initiative
is to implement programs that aim to cleanse waterways by working with
researchers to improve agricultural land use practices and technology usage.
The oil spill was detrimental to the wildlife destroying the ecological and
economial value of the Gulf Coast. Therefore this new, Gulf of Mexico,
initiative serves as the first step to prevent pollution and to create and use
more advanced technology. All of this in efforts to assist in reducing the
amounts of erosion and environmental destruction within the Gulf Coast Habitat.
This financial opportunity has been a great addition for farmers and ranchers
to be actively involved in making a drastic improvement in agriculture life.
Despite the length of time it has taken
for there to be an active response to this particular environmental
catastrophe, the Gulf of Mexico initiative is imperative for the regrowth of
our ecosystems and the protection of other links within our environment that
were drastically affected by the oil spill. Financial support from government
funded organizations will be vital in the success of the many programs that are
being implemented to improve equipment, technology, and all around agricultural
upkeep.
