Just recently the Thai police have found another Iranian suspect in a bombing that they want to arrest who they believe is allegedly behind the bombs in Bangkok. The authorities are accusing this man of being a fifth member of a group that they say had planned to target at Israeli diplomats with these bombs.
Right now authorities are trying to obtain a court warrant for Nikkhahfard Javad, a 52-year-old man who was spotted leaving the Bangkok building where the first bomb was detonated on Tuesday. This would make the 5th arrest, since a Thai criminal court has already made four other arrests for other Iranians. Perhaps the most disconcerting part of this is that the authorities are saying that these bombers are possibly trying to attack spots in Bangkok popular with Western tourists.
Unfortunately, this attack of tourists or foreigners is a trend I have noticed in my other blog posts about crimes in Mexico and Egypt. I wonder if this perhaps will become a bigger global crime trend in the coming years, if it already isn’t one. I also noticed in this article that it said that, “Iran has denied the accusation, saying that ‘Israeli agents are often the perpetrators of such terrorist acts.’” When I first read this statement I was taken a back a little bit. Since in class we are currently discussing ethnicity and race, I wondered if this was a statement of blatant racism. Where, Iran denies involvement in this terrorist act and pushes it on another country because they are “usually” responsible for these acts. However discriminatory that statement may be however, it seems to be a mute point to the authorities considering most of the arrests have been to Iranian citizens. Hopefully all of the real bombers are in custody, and this violence against these peoples own country and its tourists will stop happening.
