will technology save us from over population

In an MSNBC article in 1999, environmentalist and a few economists go in a debate about whether technology will save the human race from over population. In that year it was 6 billion people on earth and declining resources. Environmentalist state that fossil fuels are being depleted and thrown in to the ozone layer,  and pollution is pilling up and "you"  want to make a claim that technology in the long run save us from our on destruction? But the explanation the economist gave was that in the short run, yes depleting resources and pollution accumulating will cause problems but in long run that will boost entrepreneurs to go out and invest to find out a way to make pollution little to none, and find a cheaper alternate resource other than fossil fuels. The human mind is our most important resource and with that we will overcome this problem. For example, in agriculture they would make more yielding seeds, and with water shortages they would cite water reclamation, efficiency technologies and desalination. The environmentalist argue and say that technologies like that are way to expensive, the desalination plants are feasible in places like in Florida but are just not affordable in places like india, which has a major water shortage. Technology is a tool just not accessible in third world countries. So how will all this help us.

My whole outlook on this is that I do agree with the environmentalist with not having faith with technology dealing with our future. I feel that Technology is the main cause for most of our problems as it is. Its time for us to wake up, some people say its already to late to try and save us. Technology over the years have become more and more advanced. It's taking away jobs that people would normally do, and is making us very lazy! Though it can make life a lot easier we just have to see that it doesn't solve every problem we have. I guess we just have to learn the hard way.
