Blog #7: shootings in Iraq

Iraq already has its problems but now they have a new one on their hands.  This week an Iraqi boy shot his American teacher and then ended up turning the gun on himself.  CNN reported that the crime wasn’t political motivated but the way it looks It quite possibly could be.  Witnesses say that there was an argument before that lead to the shooting and then the child started yelling and screaming and then shot himself with a pistol and later died in a local hospital.  The shooting occurred on the campus of the Classical School of the Medes in Sulaimaniya a northern city of Iraq and the investigation is still ongoing.  The mayor says that the shooting had no religious or political motivation behind the crime.
As the world looks at this, what do you think they are thinking?  In my opinion knowing what I know and recent events I think this could be shooting over race and ethnicity.  So much discrimination goes on in the world today.  I think this could be an act of discrimination which is a huge social problem in the world today.  Discrimination goes on everyone and I do think it is getting better but it still occurs too much.  The world has come so far for shootings and deaths to cause a shooting just because of race or ethnicity.  The Iraqi government needs help and someone needs to step up and help.  They need someone to show them the way because Americans going into Iraq should feel safe but they aren’t due to discrimination.  Not just Americans in Iraq but anywhere else in the world a foreign citizen should feel safe visiting.  I think discrimination is a huge social problem and acts like this shooting is stupid and selfish.  People need to realize that there are other people in the world that are different.
