Blog 8 The Causes of Tropical Deforestation

In 1989 a petition was signed and brought to the UN for steps to end deforestation. Large companies and inequalities of international trade is the cause. In Central America, 40% of the rainforest have been cleared in last 40 years mostly for cattle pastures and logging. Over exploitation of this land by population without land or employment reveal links with economic interest of industrial countries. The 3rd World Countries are being impoverished to make the wealthy richer. Loans that are being used to finance the environmental deforestation can only be rapid through further destructive resources. The best land is taken to earn income, from these industries. The poor are forced onto minor lands, resulting in deforestation, land degradation and poverty.

This is a vicious cycle that the 3rd World Countries and the Developed Countries are in. The 3rd World Countries may feel like they really don’t have much to do about it. They are getting “money” for the land and in return they give land. This land could be peoples’ homes and job and the only way that keeps them alive. It is very silly that developed countries are okay with doing this to land and people, just to get what they need to feed the desire that the people have and to get that profit. Not only is this resulting in deforestation it is also hurting the people that live in these lands.
