Blog #11, Frankie McAteer

In this article they explain the hardships in America with Latina workers. According to the LCLAA, (Labor Council for Latin American Advancement) among all Hispanics in America the Latino’s have it the worst in the job field with being mistreated. They have been working with terrible mistreatment, they have to work overtime with no extra pay, in a lot of cases the Latino’s have been even made to work off the clock. The women even get treated worst than the men. They a lot of times get raped, but the thing is they can’t even mention it because they are illegal citizens and will be deported if they turn the guy in because they will know that she is illegal and then will be deported. Hector Sanchez the leader of the LCLAA is trying to put a lot more order in the States with Latino workers. He’s trying to break the cycle of oppression and exploitation. He states; “workers must feel free to stand up and rise against mistreatment in the workforce regardless if they are an illegal immigrant or not, they are still human beings.”

This is a very touchy subject in America. These are human beings regardless if they are considered by our law, “illegal.” The companies that do these things to these people should be put in jail. The women are being treated as slaves, you can’t make them work 70 hrs a week and not give them their 30 hrs of overtime, that’s cruel and should not be accepted. Everyone thinks bad things about these people and that they are ruining our country, these people are just ignorant. If everyone would just sit back and look, they would realize that they came from such worst than we do. How can a group of people put up with all this mistreatment and the women getting raped and not saying anything about it just in fear of going back where they came from. Where they came from must be unimaginable to what we are custom to and we just judge them and think of them as a problem. We should except them and realize that we do have a great country compared to a lot of the world were people will put themselves through that just to stay here.
