There are schools in London now that are giving advice to
their students about which career path to take. I think this is a wonderful
idea because the teachers have been out in the real world longer than the
students have making the professors more knowledgeable about careers. But this
could also be a bad thing as well. In this particular article the student has a
bright future but she was given an opportunity to be an apprentice for a
hairdresser. The teacher was shocked that student wanted to do this. Some of
the schools in London are discouraging students to become apprentices, but why
is this so? Shouldn’t teachers be encouraging their students to get this type
of experience, because let’s be honest you cannot put a value on experience.
The problem is that teachers should not be telling students they should not do
the thing they want to do in life. The apprenticeship lets the student know if
that profession is right for them or not. Teacher should only be making
suggestions, not persuading student towards one career path. The problem today
is more students are getting a higher education but some parents are teachers
are telling them to do this major and when they graduate they do not like that
field. So if students were able to do more apprenticeships in high school this
will allow them to more than likely not change their major while in college and
like what they will be doing for the rest of their lives.
