Blog 13: Do Mexican Cartels Control Sex Trafficking in Argentina?

Have drug gangs expanded into human trafficking in Mexico?  No one is sure but little evidence has been provided to back up the claims.  Mexican journalist Lydia Cacho claimed that two of Mexico’s more notorious criminal groups, the Sinaloa Cartel and Zetas, have expanded operations.  They have now started moving into Argentina’s sex trafficking.  Apparently, for many years, cartels have existed in this area but now, they are expanding to buy human beings, claims say.  The declarations made have been in the media for years since an incident in 2002. Now, they focus on how much human trafficking has grown – a rate far to fast to handle.
Human trafficking has grown “alarmingly” over the last decade.  Young women and girls are kidnapped and sold or forced into prostitution.  This is a complete violation of human rights.  Forced actions upon a human show superiority over others.  This also shows gender inequality, as many victims are female.  Over half a million women are trapped in trafficking networks in that country.  Because trafficking is being ran and dictated by different groups and cartels, it is seen as hierarchy of powers in this area, and how people pray on one another.  The efforts of prevention organizations are helpful in theory but investigations into human trafficking rings can be difficult.  Often targeting poorer regions, the government may have a hard time even finding information on some trafficked individuals.
