Blog 13: U.S. busts global online drug market, arrests eight

Eight men have been charged for running an elaborate online narcotics market.  It sold drugs to over three thousand people in the United States as well as thirty-four other countries.  The men have been arrested after a two year investigation called “Operation Adam Bomb”. Users were allowed to communicate anonymously. The secret ring was known as “The Farmers Market”.  The online drug market provided order forms and customer service.  This drug market was one of the most sophisticated drug markets on the internet. It represented a first of its kind. This drug organization sold drugs all over the world and did so through advanced online technology. “The Farmer’s Market” allowed independent places to advertise for illegal drugs.  Some of the drugs that were sale to the public include: LSD, ecstasy, fentanyl, mescaline ketamine, DMT and marijuana. All eight charged face up to a life sentence in jail.
“The Farmer’s Market” is an example of a drug related crime. “The Farmer’s Market” used advanced online technology to allow the public to purchase  illegal drugs.  People from the United States as well as thirty-four other countries had access to the buying of these drugs. Drug trafficking is a terrible crime that is a problem in almost all countries. Not only is buying and selling illegal drugs a crime, the illegal drugs people take can make them commit much worse crimes. This online site allowed over 3,000 people to purchase their illegal drugs.  They were able to cover up their crime with the use of online technology. Hopefully, this will show other organizations that are using online technology to commit crimes, that it will not be tolerated.  The men charged with this crime should serve the rest of their lives in prison for helping sell drugs in order to receive a little profit.
