Blog1: Personal Coaches Help Haitian Families Escape Poverty

This article is about how with the help of the World Bank some 50,000 Haitian families are getting a chance to pull put of the poverty this country has been plagued by.  Instead of just throwing money at the problem as it seems customary in relief program  the World Bank has decided to take a more scientific approach.  The group of 50,000 will be matched with an "agent" that will work with each family to develop a plan for spending and working to "put the plan in their hands" putting the ability for success dependent  on their efforts.  There will be a control group of persons in similar areas to see if there is an improvement in the degree of poverty between the two groups. If  results between the two groups show notable improvement the World Bank would be willing to extend help  to other parts of the country and would learn not just for this community but have the tool for future countries.

This article shows a pressing issue not just in Haiti but around the world as the article shows thirty percent of households are headed by women in Haiti which is a strong predictor of poverty.  Looking at this article gives hope not only to this community but to other impoverished nations because for the first time a government organization is not just throwing money at a situation.
