Looking at the material that we have covered in the most recent section of class that dealt with gender inequality and the disparities between men and women we have a story coming from the United Kingdom of wage differences between men and women in the sport of cricket. The captain from the female England National cricket team talks about the inequality between men and women's wages, treatment, and prize money differences. She call's for action from the World Twenty20 international cricket organization and criticizes their obvious unequal treatment of their female athletes compared to their males. She notes how women receive significant;y less wages, are subject to worse treatment like flying coach compared to flying business class like the men, and the large difference in prize money that could be won. At the end of the article there are also comparisons given to others sports and how they differentiate in prize money that can be won for either males or females. The only one that has an equal amount of money that can be won is the Tennis Grand Slam Finals.
It is disheartening that there still remains so much inequality amongst the genders. It is constantly harped upon that gendered inequality is not a significant issue and it is more a thing of the past. This, however, is not the case. We see from this and other cases such as the WNBA compared to the NBA that gendered inequality still runs rampant. Ideally this inequality gap will shrink to 0 but there needs to be proactive work to change it. The social constructs that shape many parts of the world due to patriarchal societies needs to shift to a mutual sharing.
