Blog 5: Christian School Rejects Child because Father's are Gay

The article that I chose this week is about a Christian school in Texas that denied a 3 year old admittance because he has two gay fathers. The school sent home a letter saying that “same gender couples are inconsistent with scriptural lifestyle and biblical teachings.” They also said the home life of these parents doesn’t reflect the school is a private school that is exempt from excessive government interference when it comes to religion. Another school in Texas has made news for faith-based discrimination. A teacher was fired for being pregnant and not married. The teacher stated how she was in a committed relationship at the time.
This article relates closely to the topics we have been discussing recently in class. This article talks about discrimination. The schools in this article show discrimination against same sex parents as well as women who have children out of wedlock. I think that just because a child has two gay fathers doesn’t mean that their child shouldn’t be able to receive a Christian education. The same sex couple wanted their child to get a Christian education and I feel that he should be allowed to attend the school no matter what. I do see where the school is coming from in the fact that they don’t want to promote what they are teaching their students not to be from a biblical standpoint. But then again I don’t think it would be very Christian of them to deny access to a child because of who his parents are or their sexuality. I also don’t think it was right for the second school to fire a teacher over her own personal business. What she does in her life is her business. I don’t see the point in firing her because she was in a relationship just not married. Schools like this who are devout Christians can make their schools look bad and put out a bad name that makes people change their mind about Christians as a whole. I just wish that everyone could be accepted no matter who they are, how they choose to live their life, or what they do.

There are many other places all over the world that show discrimination towards people who are same sex couples. Looking at the different websites about which countries have laws that allow gay marriage was a good insight. It allowed me to see the world view on this issue. Some countries are not open to gay marriage and would probably allow the same thing to happen in their schools. This is not just discrimination that is here in the US but other various parts of the world as well.
