People have gotten salmonella after
eating dutch smoked salmon. In the Netherlands about 200 people have gotten
salmonella. The national institute of
public health (RIVM) has stated that this could be the “tip of the iceberg”
Foppen a Dutch fish producer had been taking off the shelves. They are the suppliers
to large food chains all over. The
numbers are not too accurate. The real
numbers of people effect by the salmonella are probably way higher then what
they have documented. About 200 hundred people
have fallen ill by means of contaminated salmon. As stated by the RIVM. About 100 people in
the US have been effect by the same kind of salmonella. The smoked salmon that was produced by the
Foppen company has been taking off of the shelves in the Netherlands. And there
has been a major recall of the salmon that has been prepared and sold in the
US. The Foppen company has sent their
sincerest apologies about the entire situation, and for any inconvenience they
have caused people. Salmonella as a
whole, causes Diarrhea, abdominal pain, cramps, mabe some fever or vomiting. It takes about four to seven days to clear up, and often times people needed
treatments to help battle with dehydration.
This story seemed all to familiar. I remember when there were tons of Salmonella
scares here in the states. I’m glad that
they were able to get down to the root of the problem and that they were able
to indicated exactly where the salmonella stemmed from. It was really shocking to me as to how many
people the disease had already hit. 200 is a big number, and officials are not
even certain about that number, there could be more there could be less. I hope that they have gotten all the
contaminated Salmon off of the shelves, to insure it cannot hurt anyone else.
