Marie Stopes private abortion clinic to open in
Belfast
Marie
stokes will open a clinic On October 18th. The clinic will provide abortions within
Northern Irelands guidelines. Abortions
in Northern Ireland are legal but follow very strict guidelines. An anti abortion group is completely against
the opening and have ordered for it to be shut down. But, plenty of people who lobby for abortion
rights welcomed the clinic. Northern Ireland unlike the rest of the UK does not
have an abortion act. There abortions
can only be carried out in efforts to preserve the life of the mother. Or if the duration of the pregnancy would
have sever effects physically or mentally.
The Marie Stopes clinic says it will only carry out medical, not
surgical procedures, up until the nine week period. The professionals in the Clinic will make the
judgment call and they will take into account the ideas of the women’s own
private doctor. Over 50,000 people have
had to make the trip to the rest of the UK for over the past 40 years. It is up to the RQIA to determine whether or
not the clinic needed to be registered for regulation and inspection. There is a 24 week limit for abortion that
applies in England, Scotland and Wales. There abortions are allowed, but have
certain restrictions. Britain allows
abortions after 24 weeks but only in severe cases.
Abortions
are an extremely controversial subject; everyone has an opinion on whether or not
they should be legalized. After reading this article, I think the Addition of
this clinic was defiantly needed and will be a great addition to this
Area. Regardless of peoples individual beliefs. The fact that women would have the option to
go to a clinic that is finally local and could perform such services is
wonderful. There are many reasons why women get abortions and who are we to
dictate what they can and cannot do to their bodies. Everyone’s situation is completely different,
and just because one person or group of people don’t agree with something doesn’t
mean others should suffer.
