A Young Girl's Sacrifice

In recent news Malala Yousafzai, a 14 year old school girl and activist, was shot in the head by militants this week.  A Taliban spokesperson in Pakistan’s swat valley has recently taken responsibility for this heinous act. Malala Yousafzai is a very outspoken activist of education for girls. This is believed to be the reason for the dreadful attack upon her.  Eshanullah Ehsan, a spokesman for the Pakistani Taliban told reporter Declan Walsh that, “Malala has become a symbol of Western culture in the area and had expressed admiration for President Obama”. The spokesman also claimed that the attack was justified because “she was promoting Western culture in Pashtun areas” and that they would attack her again if she survived the shooting.  Malala Yousafzai did survive and is in a military hospital in Rawalpindi, near the headquarters of the Pakistani Army. Malala Yousafzai remains in critical condition.  Because doctors were able to remove the bullet that passed through her head to her shoulder her family and friends are remaining very optimistic about her condition.
In the eyes of terrorist not even young kids are safe from their unjustified wrath.  I found this article very interesting and I have come to the conclusion that not only should America’s terrorist contingency measures be raised, but other countries as well. In a place where equality and woman’s rights are subject to these kinds of actions, the local government should focus on these matters in particular and protecting its citizens to deter terrorist actions like this. The Taliban should be brought to justice because of its atrocious crimes and as long as no terrorist contingency plans are being put in place these horrible things will continue. The world should use this example and this young girl’s bravery to fight off terrorism.
