Blog 8: How Does Car Pollution Affect the Environment & Ozone Layer

More than likely when your driving you let out fossil foils which emits gasses and affect the environment.  When the car engine is running a couple have particle and gasses that are dangerous to the society.  One particular common gas that is dangerous to the environment is the carbon dioxide. Other emissions that affect the humans health also create smog include ozone and carbon monoxide.  Thanks to the 1970 Clean Air Act air quality is actually better than it was in 1970 even with more vehicle on the road.  Some particulate matters cars can be disrupted to the soil which will later on come in contact with animals and have negative effects on them. Nitrogen oxides and Sulfur oxides that come from are one of the main causes of acid rain, and it change the PH of the waterway and the soil which can affect organisms that rely on those two sources.  The ozone layer is in place to protect life on earth from the sun ultraviolet rays.  Substances that causes Ozone depletion usually have high concentration of chlorine and bromine atoms.  Vehicle emission contain a little of chlorine and bromine substances and that is why vehicles have a minor affect on the ozone layer.  Vehicle's contain many fluids such as motor oil, gasoline, air-conditioning refrigerants, and windshield-wiper fluids.  These fluids are harmful to humans and animals and can leak into waterways if they are leaking from a vehicle. Most of the fluids are exposed to heat and oxygen and chemical changes take place.  The fluids also come into contact with heavy metal from the engines wear and tear, this makes the fluids more toxic to the environment.
This article is a great way to learn about the dangerous of using a vehicle and the long term effects it can have if not improved.  After reading this article I believe that individuals should get together and think of a way to make more electrics cars instead of cars that emit gasses.  I know it will be a hard change to make but this can save lives for humans and animals.  If we continue to use vehicles that emit dangerous gas that harms the atmosphere is make completely deplete our ozone layer in the future which can lead to major issue for the earth.
