Blog 9 France Free Abortion Bill: Lawmakers Vote To Fully Reimburse Procedure

While in the United States where abortion is debated about whether they should be illegal or not France has decided to vote to make a law where abortion should be free or mostly paid for by those who want it done. On Friday France lower house voted so contraception could be free and abortions could be reimbursed for minors.  The national medical insurance will pay for the abortion in full for minors and any poor people besides that other women who seek abortions can be reimbursed up to eighty percent.  Keep in mind a typical cost of an abortion can cost up to $580 in American dollars.  This vote is now sent to the Senate and it is said that it will likely pass.  The bill has stated that women should have the right to get rid of an unwanted pregnancy if desired.  Of course the law would have rules like no reimbursements past 450 Euro’s.  That price might be a problem seeing that some doctors in Europe charge more than that for an abortion.  France is one of the first countries to allow minors to get abortions without their parents’ consent and to start the pill RU- 486 which can terminate your pregnancy in other words the abortion pill.  Some people in France do oppose to this idea but it’s not considered too much of a big deal.  By doing this France hopes to stop unwanted pregnancies.  It is also said that not many doctors offer abortion in France so more information to the public needs to be given about that.
