Blog 7# How much will technology boom change Kenya

Currently in Kenya they are seeing a rapid growth in the use of mobile devices that is helping the country. All these technology are very useful to Kenya people especially when it comes to farming now. Local farmers can now find the price of a crop through a text message. This is a very useful thing because the farmers didn’t always have this technology or capacity and because of it they would lose out on getting the best crop for their money. They called this new app M-farm with this app farmers could post produce on the app and also see what other farmers in the area had produce as well. Since this a new technology for Kenyans most people in the area don’t have smartphones. So the way they can see the price is by a text message. Another mobile app that Kenyan is currently using is called M-pesa. This new app lets people by their bills through it. As reported by the IMF “ M-Pesa process more transactions domestically with Kenya than western union does globally and provides mobile banking facilities to more than 70% of the country adult population”. Another technology by mobile phone that is being used in Kenya is letting customers pay for parking tickets on their phone. The government has established a service where people can pay their parking tickets by phone and not have to go to court now.
Kenya ideas of bringing new technology to people are great. It looks like Kenya is trying to change the way things are in their country. Even with all the corruption and violence in Kenya good to see they are trying to get to 20th century like the rest of the world. This is the beginning stage for them since only 30% have access to mobile phones. With time this will probably get more advanced.
