Blog #7 Commander Nominated to Lead War in Afghanistan

This article is about a General that Mr. Obama is appointing to take control of the war in Afghanistan. “If confirmed by the Senate, General Dunford will preside over the withdrawal of most of the 68,000 American troops in Afghanistan expected by the end of 2014” (Bumiller). General Dunford was in the war with Iraq, and Obama feels like he is the right guy for the job. Last month the United States withdrew the last of the 33,000 “surge” forces from Afghanistan that Mr. Obama ordered to try to bring the war under control. With the reduction over the next two years of the remaining 68,000 American troops, General Dunford would lead a force that is to operate from fewer bases and will train Afghan forces to take the lead in combat (Bumiller). Mr. Obama feels that General Dunford will help end the war in Afghanistan cause he has been in a war before. I believe this is a good choice at general because he has experience in wars and their plan is to be done with the war in two more years. If the war is finished in two years then this would be a job well done for president Obama.
