Jordan:
Refugees need teachers and textbooks
The refugee
camps in Jordan were established in July 2012, it holds over 60, 000 refugees,
and fifty six percent of them are under the age of 18. UNICEF is setting to
hopefully put up more schools and teachers to provide education for the
refugees. So far, UNICEF has opened up one school on site, with hopes of
construction of more. The fifty teachers that have been recruited are Syrian
refugees. Jordan’s government offers free schooling to the registered refugee
children, but the school system is unable to support that. UNICEF has made out
small-scale renovations at public schools across Jordan.
This is important
because it will help in contributing to meet the goal of universal primary
education, empowerment of women, and equality for the refugees. The refugees at
this camp have the opportunity now to help meet their social needs of receiving
an education. They are able to receive the same benefits of having an education
as other people in the world. The girls in Jordan are able to take this
opportunity and empower themselves in their country and society. Therefore,
providing textbooks and teachers and construction of schools will help reach
these goals.
