Blog 11: As Dengue Fever Sweeps India, a Slow Response Stirs Experts’ Fears

India right now is experiencing an epidemic of the dengue fever.  The dengue fever is a virus that is spread by mosquito's.  The government is just now more concerned about this because it has an effect on millions of people around the world.  This type of virus has been reported to have been around since the 1950s.  This global virus is not improving but getting worse.  Sick tourists from the Western side end up traveling back home and transferring the virus there.  There was even a case in Miami reported of the dengue fever.  India’s hospitals are currently overflowing with sick patients throughout the halls.  Throughout the month of October it was reported in India that about thirty thousand people were reported with the virus. But it also has been stated that each year at least a million become infected.  These reports of the infected only come from public hospitals.  But the more cases that go unreported are worse because the virus can continue to spread.  It is said in Thailand that every child becomes affected at least once throughout their lifetime.  The dengue fever isn’t always deadly though some just become infected with a fever that will eventually go away while others just experience fatigue for a while.  But the rest who are infected experience bad flu-like symptoms.  Besides pesticides the best result of getting rid of this fever is a vaccine but that’s not likely within the next ten years so in the meantime it’s not looking good for people.
