Blog 12: Clean up pollution

Air pollution around the world still remain dangerous and widespread.  Million of people around the world have lived in areas that have noticed air pollution problems.  Grave health effects are becoming common around the world.  This treats are not just to human beings for instance, dirty air sickens and kills people and animals and creates ugly haze.  The public health and environmental organization recommend five different areas that could make the environment a cleaner and healthier place.  Coal plants are known to be one of the largest contributors to atmospheric particulate matter and ozone, this also known to worsen asthma, increase heart rate, and early death.  A couple of years back the Environmental Protection Agency issued a new national air quality standards that was supposed to limit ozone smog but, instead it allowed more ozone that the agency had recommend.  Cleaning up ocean on going vessel was another huge problem that the environment was having.  Cruise ships, Container ships, and tankers let out large amounts of smog forming nitrous oxides, sulfur dioxide, heat-trapping carbon dioxide particles, and black carbon.  New evidence has shown that pollution from the vessels has reached the far inland.  The governments in the U.S has told the International Maritime Organization to create an emission control area in the waters, including off Alaska and Hawaii. Even though the Untied States of America signed the International Convention for the prevention of pollution of ships, it is not allowed to enforce those rules until the International Maritime Organization grants the right to create the control  areas along the coastline. Improving the pollution monitoring network can help air pollution tremendously. There is alot of  sensor regularly collect data about air quality that is sent to the EPA data base to determine if the air in a community meets the national standards. These instruments are put in about 1,000 of the nations 3,141 counties. The budget cuts forced states to reduce the number of sensors they had in place and also reduce the staff they had to maintain them while collecting analyzing data.  Many researchers had pointed out that areas without any monitoring can be facing serious health risk such as poor neighborhoods and dirty industries.  Many suggest that the EPA should work with scientist and state officials in order to lower monitoring cost and expand the ability to track pollutants.
This article points out the main problems effecting the environment pollution wise and i think it is safe to say that by following this article we can see the main areas we can work on to limit air pollution.  It is very important that there is a group of people to clean up leaks that vessels leave across the sea and i think that it should at least be once a day to make sure there is barely any pollution left behind.  I also believe that every single country around the world should have sensors to see how harmful there environment is and for that to happen the government needs to work on decreasing the cost of the sensor so it can be affordable to every one.
