Is crime defined the same worldwide? Why are laws different? How can we move toward a "global" world view if the "rules" (laws) are different from one country to the next? Are their common crimes that all cultures punish? What drives a person to commit a crime? How do the people in other countries view Americans when they hear and see (through media outlets) some of the issues we are having on a daily basis? Were the recent shootings in Sandy Hook Elementary School and the Aurora movie theater a symptom of a growing culture change? Or were they an angry response to a particular event? I have mixed feelings about gun control vs. 2nd amendment rights. I am interested in seeing what other people think about when it comes to crime. These are just a few questions that come to mind which I look forward to discussing and debating this semester.
