In Cape Town, located in South Africa,
a 54 year old woman shot and killed a man who was attempting to rob
her on Tuesday February 5, 2013, just after 5pm. This crime took
place on a farm down a dirt road which leads to the isolated Atlamtis
smallholding. The farm owner not only shot and killed him but she also wounder
another man who was coming from the opposite side of her home with
the attentions to rob and or harm her. The
woman was hit with a iron rod by one of the men, but only a little
damage was done being she stopped him from hitting her a second time and took force and shot him down. She stated, “He turned and ran
away and I ran to the front of the house. There was a second man
there...I shot at him and when he kept coming towards me, I shot
again. What prepared the woman/farm owner for the attack were her
three dogs who were in attack mode with their hair standing up. That
told her that that something was out in her yard. She first thought
it was something wild until she saw someone walk past and immediately
she grabbed her hand gun and ran outside. After she shot the second
man twice she ran inside to call the police. She stated, “The
police were there within minutes. They responded with helicopters,
trackers...they were exceptional through it all.” This attack affected the farm owner tremendously. She stated, “It bothers me to know I have killed someone, but it was a case of him
or me. They had an iron bar and a knife… they were here to do me harm.” This was the farm
owner and her husband first incident on the property which they been
residing on for nine years. The farm owner believes that the two men
climbed over a fence in order to come on her property. Police
spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Andre Traut said the dead man had not
been identified and no arrests has been made.
