Blog 3: Housing threatens Health in Zimbabwe Africa

The article by IRIN displays horrible conditions that are going on in the city of Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe citizens have no homes or water to provide accurate health and hygiene to these people. Many have to use a bucket to use the bathroom in which they have to throw outside since there are no toilets.  Jeffery More states, “The stench is compounded by mounds of uncollected and decaying rubbish.”  Due to the odor and rubbish around Zimbabwe has cause outbreaks of Cholera and Typhoid. In August 2008 over 4000 people were killed due to contaminated water. The citizens here have no clean water! They use rain from when it rains or ask a neighbor (city) for fresh water. The government has promise better housing conditions but has failed to even help out Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe is one city in which many are homeless; they look into the outdoors to provide a sense of outlet for feces and other matters.
Zimbabwe is in need of better housing conditions; in which the government needs to take a stand in funding projects to help out these citizens. This is not only a public health issue but has caused many people to die due to the rubbish around the city. This issue has now broke out to environmental problems causing the city and outside to be polluted with feces and other trash. I feel that Africa and many other developing countries are in risk of health diseases caused by their environment. We need to take a stand and provide adequate funding or resources to these countries that need it the most.
