On May, 28 2013, at least 5000 experts on women’s health and reproductive rights issues will attend a conference in Malaysia. This conference is called “Women Deliver 2013” and one of the main goals is to make sure that investments made on girls and women’s global priority stays important in order to improve the 2015 Millennium Development Goal. 160 countries will be affected and hopefully helped through this conference. Another goal of this meeting is to emphasize on the unmet needs of family planning and address the issues of contraceptives. Their goal is to make contraceptives more easily accessible to 120 million women who may need it most that live in the poorest countries by 2020. The first portion of this conference is devoted to discussions concerning their theme which is “Investing in Women”. The post-2015 developmental framework is the second order of business that this meeting is expected to address. Women’s overall health, especially their reproductive health and knowledge is an important message they are trying to relay in this conference. More than 70 journalists, reporters, and editors have confirmed their attendance to this conference and plan to cover all the topics and issues that are discussed. Those who are unable to physically attend this conference are able to watch from a media room and have access to the high level sessions and press conferences.
This conference is an extremely big deal and important in order to help girls and women across the world who lack the knowledge or ability to get the help and prevention they need. 2015 is still two years away, but when trying to improve the overall empowerment and health of women in multiple, poverty stricken countries, it isn’t much time. The experts and leaders of this conference aim to help these women in hundreds of countries to empower themselves and encourage healthier ways of taking care of their bodies. Women’s health, reproductive rights, and family planning issues are worldwide and undermined in countries that lack the power to improve these conditions. Through this conference and all the support that comes with it, something will hopefully change for the better and statistics will improve for the 2015 MDGs.
