Confession of rapes in Acapulco, Mexico

In Acapulco, Mexico six suspects who were arrested and accused of raping a group of Spanish tourists have finally confessed. A seventh woman of Mexican nationality was spared. She identified herself to the men and asked them not to rape her, as a result they complied and left her alone. They confessed the full story of what happened and there is only one person who has been identified that still needs to be arrested for the crime. The crime took place in a beach bungalow in the Pacific port of Acapulco. The men tied up the men who were with the victims with cell phone cables and bikini straps. It is still unknown if the suspects arrested, one of who is a minor of 16 years old is a part of a gang. Investigators believe that the suspects bought drugs from the victims a few days prior to the attack. Apart from rapes, the men stole their cell phones, iPads, and tennis shoes.
Over the weeks in international news I have seen reoccurring crimes take place in Mexico. Many know that Mexico is not the safest place on Earth with the drug wars and crimes as we see here like rape. This high-profile case in the resort city was a reminder of many security problems in an area that has seen violence increase, even as homicide numbers in other problem areas of Mexico start to go down. As a student who has been contemplating the idea of studying abroad in Mexico, this makes me very concerned and wary of my own safety. I hope to soon see possible resolutions suggested to decrease the crime rates in Mexico. This article did not suggest possible reasons as to why the crime rates has increased like my past blog did in regards to South Africa.
