The article, http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-21620624, discusses how new technology is being developed in an attempt to help those of older age or those who need assistance in walking. This development is disguised as a simple walking cane, though one that can help those who are always worried about, as when people get older they fall more, if they get alzhimers they are known to sometimes wonder off somewhere and their safety is a huge concern. The cane aims to fix that by having a built in GPS, 3G and WiFi to help locate them. The ability to detect if someone falls is also aimed at being implemented which would help even more to help avoid those cases where an elderly person fell days ago and no one had noticed and they pass away. Along with keeping up with the person, it can also track their heart rate and dial medical services if their beat becomes irregular.
This new tech would benefit society as a whole as it is a fact that everyone ages, and as the lifespan increases with the advancement of society the elderly population increases as well. This would have an impact for it would help those of us in the technology age keep with tech as we age and it would help possibly extend the life expectancy as well with its monitoring. An overall quality of life improvement.
