Blog 6: Rwanda Over 5 Million to get the Vaccine

In the article by Kaitesi he describes how Rwanda will get vaccines that can help save children lives. Rwanda had over 5 million people to get measles. Kaitesi states,” About five million children between nine months and 14 years will benefit from the Measles and Rubella Vaccine.” Rwanda will be the first country in Africa to get this vaccine which can save so many lives. This vaccine the MR vaccine protects us against sickness from both measles and rubella. Rubella is spread between close contacts with another person. Measles is spread through coughing or sneezing from person to person. Rwanda has now vaccinated almost all of their children. This has not only helped out in survival rates but gave hope to new health practices. Since the new vaccination of Measles and Rubella the deaths in Africa has declined. Kaitesi ends his article stating,” deaths due to measles in Rwanda are estimated to have declined from 670 in 2000 to three in 2010.” This shows that the new Rwanda vaccines helps keep children alive.
After reading this article I can see how public health has help across the nation. Rwanda is a country in Africa that is now receiving the same benefits as us in the United States. Rwanda has vaccines that can help many children survive. Health care is a big issue in Africa. Many people that live in Africa don’t have the adequate health care that we have today. This article provides insight that Africa is slowly helping their citizens become healthy and survive by providing health care to the citizens.
