Since 2011,
Chinese schools have indicated that more children have had the opportunity to
study abroad at a younger age by 5.6%.
This year, around 15% of students within 400 counted institution have
studied at international preparatory schools, and are noted to be at a younger
age. The benefits of studying
abroad help identify the students, and at such a young age and a peaking point
in their identity and also give them the opportunity to either go back to China
or stay after their graduation dates.
Noted, the Chinese are thought to view high schools and secondary
education as a pathway to foreign universities. Additionally, “Other drivers include the fierce competition
for places at China’s top universities, parental aversion the Chinese education
system, and fear of political instability.”
With
studying abroad, even at such a young age, the benefits of being away are
countless in my opinion. It gives
you the opportunity to learn independence, gain self-discipline, and the
ability to understand how to prioritize.
Being in a foreign place at a peaking time to learn your identity is interesting,
however, I would fear that it would be too soon to be free from parental
guidance and knowing what “home” is.
