Amina Diallo spoke out about her 14 year old son who has been missing since last year. She believes he was kidnapped and turned into a child soldier. However, officials believe that these children are being recruited to fight in the Islamist Rebel frontlines. There have been at least 175 children fighting as soldiers since last year. Mali is working really hard to try to find the children that have been abducted but are finding it difficult to. There is heavy turmoil between Mali and Islamist Rebels and it is making many people have to move to find new places to live. Also, these Rebels are kidnapping more and more children each year. Some, they are believed, do not fight but are cooks and sexual slaves. Regardless, the Mali government seems to be working hard trying to get these children to return to their homes.
It is sad that countries in Africa and the Middle East resort to kidnapping to get children to do their work. These are innocent children who are now being exposed to some of the worst things in the world and they cannot resist. Also, the families that some of these children are being taken away from have no say in the matter because often times their lives are threatened as well. A lot of the governments that are trying hard to get the children to return are developing countries and so do not have the funds or the resources to make it happen which is just hard anyways. I hope that more governments in surrounding areas can step in to stop the Rebels from continuing to do this as well as return the children with their families. It is such a sad thing to see these children without their families.
