According to this article Yusupha Jaiteh, founder of the association Joining Hands to fight Poverty is pleading Gambian youths to "shun illegal migration". Jaiteh established his association to eradicate poverty and help improve the economy in his country. Jaiteh says that those who embark on this dangerous journey are more likely to die out at sea. Through his research Jaiteh states that Gambian youths who stay in the country can earn "D28,000 on a monthly basis". Jaiteh has a strong believe that if the Gambian youths remain in the country they can have a descent life as fisherman or carpenters. Illegal migration is a very dangerous path that some have embarked on, however many have not made it to their destinations. Sekih Tijan Joof, a fish seller is urging young youths to stay away from traveling to Europe through "the back way" because all that awaits them are jobs that are either dangerous or pay very little. Another by stander by the name of Sheriff Touray said that Gambians should be proud to develop their country. He recounts all the jobs he has held in order to get to where he is today as a camera man. He says that he is content with his life and that dedication and perseverance helped him get through the hardships.
Illegal migration has become a global problem in many country's such as Gambia. Those who embark on the journey of migrating illegally either on foot or across the ocean face uncertainty that they will reach their destination. Those who have tried to migrate illegally to Europe have had their boats capsize on the Atlantic Ocean making it impossible to survive. Those who are migrating on legal terms also fear for their lives because they are afraid of being captured by the opposing forces. Gambian youths are encouraged to take pride in their country and do what they feel is necessary to help improve the lives of Gambian citizens. As Sheriff Touray stated all his hard work and determination has helped him to get to where he is now. Matarr Sarr was someone who decided to illegally migrate, but he said the journey was "fruitless", he is one of the survivors who was able to make it back to Gambia alive.
