Pollution/Environmental Destruction in Post 3/11 Japan
Throughout the course of the semester, I would like to focus my energy on the issues of ongoing environmental destruction/pollution in Fukushima, Japan as a result of the March 2011 earthquake, tsunami, and following nuclear meltdown at the reactor. As an IGS major with a concentration in Asian Studies, I want to focus my blog postings on this ongoing issue taking place in the country I've spent many semesters studying. Beyond my personal interest in Japanese current topics and issues, I think that what's going on is a good fit for this class; in all senses, it is both a global (affecting Japan, of course, but other countries as well) and social (man made power plants) problem. I also want to gain more knowledge on the subject myself, and hopefully shed some light on the issue for my classmates. It's important to keep in mind that although almost two years have passed since the 3/11 disaster, there are still a multitude of unresolved issues due to the destruction that Japan must face.
